Fuel for Thought: How do sugar and fat affect each other in the brain? Do you ever wonder what happens in your brain when you eat dessert? And why sugary and fatty foods are so appealing? If so, you may eligible to participate in a research study to understand the impact of sugar and fat on the brain!
Did you know that over 250 million persons are affected by Osteoarthritis? It is the leading cause of disability among adults and has no cure. Prevention of OA is preferable to treatment and females are affected at nearly twice the rate as males. If you are a female, at least 50 years of age, overweight, with no or occasional knee pain, you may be able to participate in a research study to find out if a diet and exercise program or a health education program prevent knee OA.
If you are healthy and between the ages of 30-55 years, you may be eligible to participate in a research study to find out how sugar affects the brain of individuals who carry certain genetic variants.
Are you scheduled for weight loss surgery within the next 12 months? You may be able to take part in a research study to help us learn more about your metabolic hormones, eating behaviors, stress, and weight loss before and after your surgery.
Do you have cardiovascular disease risk factors? Do you sit too much? Help researchers learn more about the most effective strategy for interrupting sitting! If you are 45 years or older, you may be able to take part in a research study to find out if interrupting sitting with walking or pedaling reduces cardiovascular disease risk.
We want to learn how people's brains adapt when responding to various food stimuli and decision-making processes. We also want to learn about brain responses to food and beverage consumption. To do this, we will use taste tests, surveys, behavioral tasks, and neuroimaging (fMRI scan).
We are doing a study to help us adapt a physical activity program for adults with intellectual disabilities. We are looking for adults with intellectual disabilities, parents/caregivers, support staff, and exercise professionals to complete a survey and take part in interviews or focus groups to provide feedback on a physical activity program. The program includes weekly group fitness meetings, one-to-one coaching meetings, and an app to support setting, monitoring, and achieving exercise goals.
Does your memory cause you daily problems? Interested in improving your metabolic health? If you are 65 or older and overweight, you may qualify for a research study examining whether changing the timing of your eating habits can improve your metabolic and brain health.
Do you have T2DM? Are you concerned about your heart health? If you are also overweight or obese, you may be able to take part in a study where we are comparing insulin to a new oral medication to help better control diabetes, heart health, and weight loss. All current diabetes medications and study product will be paid for by the study. Compensation and diabetes care and counseling provided.
In the Carolina Blue Project, we want to learn more about work-related stress, eating behaviors, and cardiovascular disease risk factors among law enforcement officers. If you work as a law enforcement officer in any North Carolina or nearby states law enforcement department, you may be able to take part in this study. We do not collect any personally identifiable information. Officers who participate in the project and complete the two required steps will receive a $100 Amazon gift card.
