In the early 2000s, over 7,000 teenagers in North Carolina participated in the "Understanding Adolescent Health Risk Behaviors" project, which aimed to explore health and wellbeing of NC teens. With the information gathered in this project, researchers have been able to better understand school engagement, friendships, mental health, tobacco and alcohol use, and home lives of young people. The NC Life Study is an expansion, more than 20 years later, of the original adolescent health study. The NC Life Study seeks to connect experiences that people had as teenagers with the experiences they are having now as adults in order to understand how people's communities, social lives, and families affect health behaviors, mental health, and healthcare access in adulthood.
The purpose of this study is to better understand how workers manage the various challenges and opportunities related to making work transitions.
In this study, we want to see how feedback affects how people walk. We will look at people over 40, those with Parkinson's disease, and those who have had a stroke. The goal is to learn how to make walking training better for rehab.
Researchers are collecting data on lung imaging to evaluate how well a person's lungs are working which will provide additional information about lung disease and how such diseases respond to treatment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of inert (non-reactive) gas mixed with oxygen as contrast agent to image the airway spaces in normal human lungs and the lungs of persons with cystic fibrosis. A contrast agent helps the investigator to see spaces inside your lungs that are normally not visible. These images will be compared with spirometry (a non-imaging measure of global lung function used routinely in the clinic).
In this study, we are exploring how couples who trying to have a baby get ready to become parents for the first time. We want to understand what they do to prepare before they get pregnant.
This research study explores elementary school professional experiences and perspectives in assessing and intervening in suicide-related risk among K-5th graders.
The purpose of this study is to understand how much people know about skin cancer and how they protect their skin. We are looking at people's knowledge about different types of skin cancer and their behaviors to prevent it. We want to see if there are common habits or barriers that affect how people take care of their skin. By learning more about these things, we hope to improve ways to promote skin health and prevent skin cancer.
The purpose of this research study is to gain insight into how people interact with some of Spotify's features including Discover Weeklyl, DJ, and Daylist. We want to learn more about the factors that influence how users discover new music when using these features.
The purpose of this research study is to investigate how human interpret some predictive learned by AI systems when detecting deceptive hotel reviews and how AI explanations can shape human understanding. For instance, the AI system learns that words like "floor" and "bathroom" are highly predictive of genuine reviews and words like "husband" and "luxury" are highly predictive of deceptive reviews. While the AI system highlights these words by learning from the data, the association between these words and the outcome are not easy to comprehend for humans. Thus, our goal of this research is to investigate how participants interact with machine-generated explanations that are unintuitive, and how participants make use of our developed visualizations and tools to make sense of these unintuitive features.
