The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of pramipexole extended release (ER) versus escitalopram for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) and mild neurocognitive disorder (MND) in people living with HIV (PWH). This study will also look at whether you experience any side effects from the study drugs.
This study aims to understand the challenges of using music therapy to support patients before and after surgery. While past research shows that music therapy can help reduce anxiety and the need for pain medications, it is not commonly used in hospitals. To explore this, researchers will interview surgeons, nurses, hospital staff, and patients to learn more about the barriers and how music therapy might be better included in surgical care.
This study aims to understand how people think about issues and benefits associated with AI, and how they communicate with other about this topic.
We aim to develop, field-test, and promote improved ways to measure and assess the public health hazards associated with sanitation systems and practices in sub-Saharan Africa, with the overall goal of informing sanitation planning and implementation at community levels. This will involve learning more about the range and distribution of sanitation technologies encountered in two cities of Africa (i.e., Kampala and Lusaka). Learning more about the levels of microbiological hazard in onsite sanitation systems especially septic tanks and other technology-specific lessons can be usefully incorporated in citywide sanitation improvement tools.
Core concepts within disciplines of science have allowed educators to teach the most foundational and critical knowledge efficiently, and students to obtain essential skills and knowledge required for a given discipline. Recent decades have seen many science disciplines applying and confirming the benefits of core concepts. However, there is limited research on the core concepts of healthcare administration and leadership, especially within pharmacy. Consequently, the lack of consensus on core concepts prevents consistency among training programs teaching pharmacy administration and leadership (PAL). Given the increasing value of didactic training for PAL and attributes within training programs such as MS degrees for pharmacy, a set of core concepts must be well defined to assist with didactic PAL training. In the world of rapidly evolving medical services, technologies, and policies, strong PAL skills can lead to advanced global health and the alleviation of some of the world's most pressing healthcare challenges
The aim of this study is to increase awareness and use of the haptics simulation lab at a research medical university using gamification. When the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry first purchased dental case simulators (Simodont), they purchased two and put them in a room disassociated with the preclinical lab resulting in very little use of the simulators. In August of 2024, eight more simulators were purchase and all ten were moved to the preclinical lab. Orientations to the simulators were in the form of eModules on Canvas and face-to-face hands-on training. Faculty members desiring to use them in their courses met with the Simodont administrator to edit cases that came with the simulators. Currently first and second year dental students are using the simulated cases in their preclinical courses with the third and fourth year students already in the clinic attending to
The purpose of this study is to examine people's intentions to perform different health behaviors, and what individual factors predict these intentions.
I will interview members of wind bands to understand their distinct qualities in U.S. musical diplomacy efforts during the Cold War and their repercussions today.
We want to learn about autistic adults' experiences with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. We are interested in two main things: 1) What causes suicidal crises for autistic adults 2) What helps autistic adults to decrease the suicidal thoughts and prevent suicide attempts
Purpose: To evaluate current best practices for identifying hearing loss in primary care settings for older adults ages 65 and up. To assess the current screening practices for hearing loss among resident and faculty physicians in North Carolina affiliated with family medicine residency programs. To develop and implement strategies to improve physician awareness and treatment plans for hearing loss in older adults.
