Students' preconceptions about Black Holes (BHs) have yet to be rigorously documented in an academic capacity, and as such there is currently no universal resource available to inform instructors as to how to best lead instruction on BH's and BH related topics. We hope to create a BH concept survey in order to collect data concerning student preconceptions about BHs and Relativity. This data will be analyzed to determine what topics are most important to address in University level Intro Astronomy courses. This will allow for construction of a BH/Relativity lesson plan that could then be applied at multiple Universities.
This study examines whether the use of the COMS One optical and magnetic stimulation device helps promote wound healing in diabetic foot ulcers
Hunter Syndrome or Mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS II) is a rare genetic disorder caused by decreased levels of a specific enzyme, iduronate-2-sulfatase. Lack of this enzyme causes buildup of large sugar molecules called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The build up of GAGs causes significant damage to the body and brain. This study is evaluating the use of JR-141, an enzyme replacement therapy, to provide the missing enzyme to the body. This allows for break down of the stored GAGs. JR-141 uses specific technology to cross the blood brain barrier so that the enzyme can get into the brain. JR-141 is expected to help both the cognitive (brain) and body effects of MPS II.
As the most visited national park in the United States, Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GRSM) has experienced social and environmental consequences due to overcrowding. This study will identify visitors' motivations behind park stewardship to inform communications recommendations to the national park.
The DNA that we can test from a nasal swab, can help us determine a patient's lung cancer risk. For patients with new lung nodules found on CT scans, we are offering this nasal swab test and collecting data on how physicians use test results to help assess risk and determine treatment strategies.
The purpose of this study is to determine if it is possible to identify biomarkers that tell us what type of response a person with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) will have to "antibody-drug conjugates" (ADCs).
The goal of this study is to uncover the frequency of low oxygen levels during sleep in pregnant women that have severe sickle cell disease. These women have a high risk of complications during pregnancy, and low oxygen levels might contribute to the complications. Therefore, finding and treating low oxygen can be impactful. The study will also look at blood cells and assess how low oxygen affects them.
Purpose: To evaluate the implementation of the UNC Family Medicine behavioral health curriculum for 42 Family Medicine residents annually (98 over the course of 5 years); Participants: UNC Family Medicine residents Procedures (methods): We will analyze results of an annual survey that is administered to residents over the course of their residency 4 times: 1 at the start of their initial residency year (PGY1), 2 follow ups at the beginning of their 2nd and 3rd years of residency (PGY2 & PGY3), and 1 final at the end of their 3rd year of residency (PGY3). In addition, we will follow up with residents as able annually for 3 years after residency, 1 time per year using a post-graduation survey.
Describe the effects of stakeholder feedback in the development and implementation of a shoulder injury reduction program.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of an 8-week yoga mindfulness meditation to identify the relationship between mindfulness yoga and stress, depression, and anxiety. Participants: Forty- four women sports student-athletes ages 18 and over in their first two years of undergraduate study at ACC member universities within a four-hour drive of the home institution. This will allow for the delivery of PAUSE-Yoga materials. Participants will complete a survey prior to the program with demographic information and the following scales: Academic Identity Measurement Scale, Athlete Identity Measurement Scale, Exercise Identity Scale, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, The International Adjustment Disorder Questionnaire, Transition Plan, Subjective Physical and Mental Health, Social Support, and Resource List. Another survey will be administered post-program with the same scales as the pre-program. Eight, 45-minute Zoom yoga sessions will be completed over 8 weeks for the PAUSE- Yoga group.
