ARAR2331: Prospective Treatment of Types I, II and III Pleuropulmonary Blastoma (PPB)

Pleuropulmonary Blastoma (PPB) is a rare lung tumor in young children that can grow in stages from less serious (Type I) to more dangerous (Type III). This study will test how well a drug combo: vincristine, topotecan, and cyclophosphamide (VTC) works for serious types (Type II and III) and help decide which patients with less serious tumors (Type I and Type Ir (regressed) PPB ) need chemotherapy after surgery. Researchers will also study the biology of the tumor to learn more about it.

Perinatal Depression Study in Za'atari Syrian Refugee Camp

Our study focuses on finding potential cases of Perinatal Depression amongst women in Za'atari Refugee Camp for Syrian refugees in Jordan. We created a paper survey that took questions from the Edinburgh Perinatal Depression Scale, the official questionnaire for assessing individuals for symptoms of this mental condition, and plan to give copies of the survey to patients at the Women and Girls Comprehensive Centre run by the Jordan Health Aid Society (JHASi). We are conducting this study because, while JHASi has information on some mental health conditions in Za'atari, they have no data on Perinatal Depression. According to this research, it seems many women are exposed to situations that could result in them developing Perinatal Depression. By assessing the women in the clinic for symptoms of this condition, our study will help fill this gap in JHASi's data and allow the organization to create new mental health support systems.

Pandemic partnerships: Schools, families, and educational inequality during COVID-19

Our project aims to document how COVID-19 is changing schools and families, and to trace the ways these changes are shaping educational inequality. In collaboration with North Carolina's Guilford County Schools, we are surveying school leaders, teachers, and parents and guardians about the academic, material, and socio-emotional resources that school communities are collectively employing in response to the pandemic. Our analyses will document school school/family collaboration during the COVID-19 crisis; investigate racial and socioeconomic inequalities in access to school services and supports; and evaluate the consequences of school supports and school/family collaboration for learning loses during the pandemic-induced interruption in regular schooling. Ultimately, we hope this project will shed light on strategies that can mitigate the pandemic's potentially disastrous consequences for educational inequality.
