Brooks Oral History

I'm doing a project to learn how Lumbee food traditions are kept alive today. I'm talking with Lumbee community members about the meals they cook, the gardens they grow, and the stories they remember. These food traditions, like making cornbread or growing collards, help show who we are and where we come from. I want to understand how these traditions are passed down in families and shared in the community, even as times change. By recording these stories, I hope to help keep them alive for future generations.

Improving Risk Assessment for Chest Pain in the Emergency Department

We are studying how to better care for people who come to the emergency room with chest pain. Right now, doctors use a tool called the HEART score to decide how serious the chest pain is and what tests the patient might need. But for patients who are in the "middle risk" group, it's hard to tell if they really need more heart tests or not. This can lead to too many tests and overcrowding in the hospital. Our study looks at new ways to help doctors decide which of these patients actually need more testing, so they can give the right care more quickly and avoid unnecessary delays or tests.
