Black Immigrant Maternal Health in the US

Black women in the United States disproportionately experience adverse maternal health outcomes across income and education levels compared to women of other racial and ethnic groups. Still, there is limited knowledge about Black immigrants in the U.S. Black immigrants will make up about a third of the U.S. Black population by 2060. There is urgency in supporting their pregnancy and birthing outcomes. This study will conduct secondary analyses of existing data and also focus groups with Black immigrant birthing people to identify factors in the health care system that can support optimal pregnancy and birthing outcomes.

Epidermal Sensors for Wireless and Enhanced Amputee Skin Tracking (E-SWEAT)

The project is developed to understand the clinical impact of a novel wearable sensor on pressure ulcer monitoring among lower limb amputation. This project includes three major testing procedures: 1) using able-body participants to demonstrate the effectiveness of the sensing system 2) using transtibial amputees without pressure ulcers to evaluate the performance of the sensing system in the challenging environment inside the socket 3) using transtibial amputees with diagnosed pressure ulcer to step up a clinical standard to use this sensing system.

Growing a Larger Community

The purpose of this research study is to understand how Karen housekeepers at UNC use produce grown by the Carolina Community Garden. We are interested in what vegetables you eat, if you have preferences for new varieties, and how you cook them. We are also interested in the social activities that accompany the cooking and eating of this produce. For example, with whom do you eat regularly? Who cooks in your household? Do you eat with non-family members?
